Dr. Howard Deitcher
Director of the Florence Melton Institute

Howard is a tenured faculty member at the Melton Centre for Jewish Education at the Hebrew University and its former director (2002-2008). He is the current educational director of the Revivim Program at the Hebrew University, which trains outstanding university students to teach Jewish Studies in Israeli national schools. From 1996-2001 he served as director of the Mandel Jerusalem Fellows Program in Jerusalem. He has published numerous articles, co-edited four books, and is a member of the Israeli Ministry of Education’s committee on Bible education that sets teaching standards and the curriculum for the teaching of this subject in all National Israeli schools. Deitcher is currently directing educational projects in 5 countries worldwide, and recently received a grant from the Covenant Foundation to produce a Parshat hashavua program integrating a Philosophy for Children Approach for Jewish Schools in the USA. He is a consultant to the Harold Grinspoon Foundation in Springfield Mass. and in that capacity advises the Foundation’s PJ Library and Voices and Visions projects. He is married to Dr Chane Mamlak-Deitcher, a Jungian psychoanalyst and they have 3 children and a grandson.
