estherESTHER MAIZELS Born in New York, Esther has been dedicated to Jewish South Africa since her arrival in 1976. She has served on many innovative projects in Cape Town from KOCOSA Cape Kosher Consumers, to Nechama bereavement counseling, Prepare Enrich pre-marital counselling to Jewish education across the spectrum.   More…


bryanBRYAN OPERT was in the Rabbinate for 18 years and now runs personal, team and leadership development programmes for disadvantaged communities. He holds an Honours in Educational Leadership. This, coupled with his vision developed on Senior Educators Fellowship at the Melton Centre, Hebrew University, is integral to the success of the workshops.  More…

RONNIE GOTKIN graduated from Herzlia school and holds a BA Hons, B Ed and M Ed degrees from UCT and an HDE from UNISA, all of which were awarded with distinction. He is also a graduate of the Senior Educators Programme at the Melton Institute, Hebrew University. More…

GREG ALEXANDER studied at UCT, Leo Baeck College, Conservative Yeshiva and Hebrew University, and has worked in the UK, Israel, Hungary, Russia and the USA.  He serves on the rabbinic team of the Cape Town Progressive Jewish Congregation and teaches and lectures in different capacities across Cape Town. AVIVA LASKOV
 currently teaches Hebrew at UCT.  She teaches the Melton course on Israeli Literature as a Window to Israeli Society.  Educated at Tel Aviv University, Aviva specialised in Linguistics and teaching second and foreign languages. More…

NACHI MENDELOW studied in the Rabbinical College of America for a year. He spent a further 2 years learning in Yeshiva in Israel. Nachi lived in Sefat for a year and a half, became a tour guide of the old city and led hikes in the mountains in the area.  More…
