Module 1: How the media works
Participate in a simulated editorial meeting to understand how decisions are made of which stories to cover. Understand editorial policies of media outlets and how this affects their reporting.
Module 2: Coverage of Israel in the International Media
Examine leading global media across the political spectrum to observe how they cover the same stories from Israel.We will explore amongst others: tv, radio, online, podcasts.
Module 3: Israel and Arab media
Take an in depth look at how leading Israeli media cover the same story.
Understand how the foreign press relies on Israeli media and how Israeli media uses the foreign press to circumvent censorship.
Examine how the current Gaza war is being covered in leading Arab media, and how this is influenced by politics.
Module 4: Engaging with the Narrative
Learn how to put across your point-of-view and how your narrative is perceived.
Examine how professionals do it and why Israel or Hamas is able to control the narrative on certain stories.
Participate in a simulation of typical conversations around the dinner table and learn how not to break up relationships because of different points-of-view.
Module 5: Crisis Management
How to engage with “bad press”.
Learn how to articulate advocacy that’s constructive in the media.
This course is designed to be interactive using multimedia.
Paula Slier has worked across all mediums of journalism for three decades – from reporting and anchoring to owning and managing TV channels. She brings a wealth of information, especially her personal experiences and anecdotes that provide the basis of this training.
