Midrasha and Melton is excited to bring you our latest Online 2-part series: The Jews of South Africa: What’s Trending? – Understanding the findings from the Jewish Community Surveys.
We are extremely fortunate to have this taught by Reviva Hasson, Social Scientist and Research Officer at the Kaplan Centre for Jewish Studies and Research (University of Cape Town). Reviva also coordinated the nationwide Jewish Community Survey of South Africa in 2019.
Explore what recent community surveys reveal about South African Jewry. We will examine changing population trends, Jewish identity and engagement, connections to Israel, education, welfare and financial security, as well as synagogue membership, communal participation and a sense of belonging. The course will also consider how our community compares with other Jewish communities across the English-speaking diaspora.
Educators, lay and professional communal leaders, expatriate South Africans and all interested participants should not miss this unique opportunity to take a deep dive into understanding the trends within South African Jewry.
Classes will be online Monday evenings October 19, 26 from 19H15 SAST to 20H15 SAST.
The course fee is R400/$45 and ref: JSA26 and your surname.
Please feel free to forward to your networks and encourage them to join.
